Levy Burris is a long-time resident of the area, having graduated from Rifle High School.  He served 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and then returned to the Rifle area.  He began his law enforcement career with the Rifle Police Department in 1982.  In 1985, he joined the Garfield County Sheriff's Office and served in a number of capacities, including patrol deputy, investigator, patrol sergeant, investigations supervisor and finally, as Undersheriff.  Following an unsuccessful bid for Sheriff, levy joined the Glenwood Springs Police Department.  While at GSPD, Levy was assigned to the Western Colorado Drug Task Force and helped establish TRIDENT and GRANMET (Grand, Routt, Moffat Counties' Narcotics Enforcement Team).  After that, Levy was promoted to Patrol Sergeant and served in that capacity until transferring to the Administrative Sergeant position.  There, Levy coordinated Crime Prevention and Community Services.  He was responsible for the Professional Standards Unit. In 2007, Levy was appointed Chief of police in the Town of Silt and has worked to establish a rapport with the citizenry and develop a friendly, credible relationship with the community.
